> With his demonstrated leadership and service record and solid conservative platform, Andy, despite his political newcomer status, mounted an aggressive campaign for change. In a district where there were only 300 Vietnamese registered to vote in previous elections, his campaign registered, mobilized and secured approximately over 1,500 Vietnamese American votes during early voting period. A significant turn-out on General Election Day yesterday helped consolidate his lead over his incumbent opponent VanRavenswaay.
With likely support from a third candidate who did not make the run-off, we are looking at a possible landslide victory for Andy Nguyen in the run-off election on April 13. Thus, after Hoang Duy Hung's recent victory in Houston, Vietnamese Americans are emerging to be a political force in Dallas, Texas as well. In the race for VanRavenswaay's seat, Klick said nearly 27 percent of the early votes were cast by people who hadn't participated in previous primaries. Klick said that trend was also seen to a lesser extent throughout early voting. She said about 20 percent had no previous primary history, and about 10 percent had voted in past Democratic primaries."
Burch said he worked hard to win the Vietnamese vote in the district, including campaigning with Andy Nguyen, a candidate for Tarrant county commissioner and former president and chairman of the Vietnamese American Community of Tarrant County. "We were working very closely with the Vietnamese," Burch said. "They and the Tea Party were a key factor."
